Peruvian National Eye Institute named after Dr. Francisco Contreras Campos

In recognition of Dr. Francisco Contreras Campos’ work in blindness prevention, the Peruvian National Eye institute, Instituto Nacional de Oftalmología – INO, has been named after him: Instituto Nacional de Oftalmología “Dr. Francisco Contreras Campos”.

Amongst many positions and multiple awards, he was Founder and Director of the Peruvian National Eye Institute; the first Ophthalmic Pathology Laboratory and the Eye Bank in Peru. He has been President of the Pan American Association of Ophthalmology and the Peruvian Society of Ophthalmology, and served as Chairman of IAPB Latin America and the Committee for the Prevention of Blindness.

Dr. Contreras is also the recipient of the IAPB Global achievement Award in 1999 and the IAPB Regional Award in 2008 (at the IAPB 8th General Assembly).

 We congratulate Dr Contreras; He is a true inspiration for the ophthalmological community and a great example to follow.
