WHO Action Plan - Zero Draft

Friday, 7 September, 2012 - 08:22

The World Health Organization (WHO) is developing a new action plan for the prevention of avoidable blindness and visual impairment for the period 2014-2019.  The draft action plan will be considered by the WHO Executive Board in January 2013, and by the World Health Assembly (WHA) in May 2013.  Once approved, the action plan will be implemented from 2014 after the current action plan ends.

A so-called zero draft has now been posted on the WHO website. It can be accessed at the following link and WHO is now inviting comments on the zero draft - http://www.who.int/blindness/actionplan/en/index2.html.

It is important that member states and NGOs provide feedback to WHO to ensure that significant issues and priorities are reflected in the final plan.

The Fred Hollows Foundation with support from IAPB and Sightsavers has led on the production of a range of advocacy materials to help NGOs and governamnets engage with the plan. All the advocacy materials including the background document, brochure, fact sheets and advocacy kit can be accessed here.

A video for the campaign is also available in our video library.
