Moshi, Tanzania – 6 August 2026 – The Kilimanjaro Centre for Community Ophthalmology (KCCO) is commemorating its 25th Anniversary through a two-day scientific and stakeholder forum that brings together government leaders, eye health specialists, researchers, development partners and representatives from regional and zonal hospitals in Tanzania and several African countries supported by KCCO.
Held at KCMC from 6–7 August 2026, the Anniversary Forum celebrates twenty-five years of collaboration, innovation and commitment to strengthening eye health systems, reducing avoidable blindness and ensuring equitable access to quality eye care services.
The opening ceremony is officiated by Professor Gileard Masenga, Executive Director of KCMC, as the Guest of Honour.
Established in 2001 through a partnership between KCMC and the Good Samaritan Foundation (GSF), KCCO has worked closely with the Ministry of Health and partners to strengthen eye health systems across Tanzania.
• More than 850,000 people received eye health services in Tanzania.
• More than 60,000 cataract surgeries performed in Tanzania.
• Over 1.9 million people reached and more than 165,000 cataract surgeries across KCCO-supported African programmes.
• Strengthened services in government and faith-based hospitals.
• Improved access for women, children and underserved communities.
• Enhanced capacity through training, mentorship and operational research.
KCCO is a non-profit organization established in 2001 in Moshi, Tanzania, strengthening eye health systems through partnerships, capacity building, research and community engagement across Tanzania and several African countries.
