MembershipA commitment to the Global Summit for Eye Health is more than a statement of intent. It is a public pledge to take specific action and deliver measurable progress for eye health. Commitments can be made by governments, NGOs, INGOs, private sector organisations and other institutions, turning the ambition of the Global Summit into concrete action.
The deadline to submit commitments is 8 October 2026. Whether you have already submitted or are still developing your commitment, here is what you need to know about what happens next.
Once submitted through the Commitment Portal, every commitment goes through a structured verification process.
First, the Assessment Team reviews the submission for completeness and assesses it against the Commitment Guidance and verification criteria. This includes looking at whether the commitment is clear, measurable and time-bound, and whether the expected results and other required information provide a sufficient basis for tracking progress.
Where clarification or further information is needed, the Liaison Team contacts the commitment maker directly. This may involve questions about targets, expected results, timeframe, financial contribution or how an action will be delivered. The purpose is not to rewrite the commitment, but to work with commitment makers to make it as clear, meaningful and accountable as possible.
Following this process, the commitment is reviewed by the IAPB Verification Committee before being shared with the World Health Organization (WHO) for review. Once this process is complete, the commitment is ready for publication.
The commitment statement will be included in the Global Summit Outcome Document as part of the List of Commitments, which will be presented at the Global Summit. It should therefore capture the overall ambition, key actions and, where appropriate, headline measurable targets of the commitment.
Other information submitted including expected results, priority areas, timeframe, estimated financial contribution and sub-commitments, will remain within the Commitment Portal. The Portal will become publicly available on the day of the Global Summit 2 November 2026, allowing everyone to view commitments made by governments, NGOs, INGOs, private sector organisations and other commitment makers.
Importantly, the Portal is not only a publication platform. It will provide the basis for ongoing accountability, with commitment makers able to view their commitments and report progress against them after the Summit.
There is still time. Commitments can be submitted until World Sight Day, 8 October 2026, and our team is engaging with commitment makers throughout this period.
