IAPB Africa Chair: Aaron Magava
Dr Aaron Magava is the Chair for the IAPB Africa region. Before becoming the chair after the 10GA in 2016, he was the Southern Africa Co-Chair for eight years.
Aaron has worked in implementing a provincial Vision 2020 unit in the past 14 years in Zimbabwe; where he started the programme with partnership of CBM, Sightsavers, Zimbabwe Council for the Blind and Zimbabwe Ministry of Health and Child Care. He was the acting Zimbabwe National Eye Care Coordinator at the time until 2015.
IAPB Africa Co-Chairs
Dr Josephy Oye : Co-Chair, IAPB Central Africa
Dr. Joseph Oye is the co-chair for Central Africa Sub-region. Dr. Oye is responsible for the following countries: Cameroon, Central Africa Republic, Chad, Congo Brazza, D. R. Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon.
Senanu Quace – Wossinu: Co-Chair, IAPB West Africa, Francophone
Senanu Quacoe is the co-chair for Francophone/Lusophone West Africa Sub-region. Mr. Senanu Quacoe is responsible for the following countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea Bissau, Guinea Conakry, Mali, Togo, Niger, and Senegal.
Edson Eliah Mwaipopo: Co-Chair, IAPB East Africa
Edson Eliah Mwaipopo is the co-chair for the East Africa Sub-region and the Director of KCCO, Tanzania. He has been the co-chair since 2017 and is a 2013 IAPB Eye Health Leader. He is responsible for the following countries: Eritrea, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi.
Dr Margarida Chagunda : Co-Chair, IAPB Southern Africa
Dr Margarida Chagunda is the IAPB Africa Co-Chair for Southern Africa. Dr Chagunda received her medical training and specialization in ophthalmology in the country and worked for four years as general ophthalmologist at Beira Central Hospital where she was involved in training of mid-level eye cadres. In 2013-2014 she did her MSc in Public Health for Eye Care at LSHTM and on returning home joined the National Eye Care Programme as advisor and focal person for human resources.
Dr Fatima Kyari: Co-Chair, IAPB West Africa (Anglophone)
Dr Fatima Kyari is the co-chair for Anglophone West Africa Sub-region. She is is responsible for the following countries: Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and The Gambia.
Dr Fatima Kyari has a PhD in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, with a research focus on glaucoma services and control of glaucoma blindness
