Dr Josephy Oye : Co-Chair, IAPB Central Africa

Dr. Joseph Oye is the co-chair for Central Africa Sub-region. Dr. Oye is responsible for the following countries: Cameroon, Central Africa Republic, Chad, Congo Brazza, D. R. Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon.

He is a public health ophthalmologist and international development manager by training, and has been working with Sightsavers since 2001. Dr Oye became interested in eye health after completing his undergraduate dissertation on onchocerciasis (river blindness). His dissertation made him realise the magnitude of the devastation of people’s lives as a result of blinding eye conditions.

After specialising as an ophthalmologist, Dr Oye completed an MSc in Public Health Ophthalmology and as well as studies on disability, providing him with a wide breadth of knowledge in public health, social inclusion, disability and development.

Prior to joining Sightsavers Dr Oye was a District Medical Officer working with the Cameroonian Government.
