Nearly 80% of the World’s Blindness is avoidable.

Avoidable blindness is defined as blindness which could be either treated or prevented by known, cost-effective means. VISION 2020 takes a programmatic approach towards highlighting and addressing the different issues in tackling the main causes of avoidable blindness.
IAPB focuses its work on these key areas to achieve the VISION 2020 agenda:

Resource Mobilisation

Programme Facilitation

Refractive Error Programme Committee

Work on global strategies for eliminating refractive error, as well as facilitating and overseeing the implementation of such strategies.

Human Resources Programme Committee

Use existing data to assess the availability of human resources and their skill levels; training resources and the level of their utilisation.

Technology Programme Committee

Provide advice on, and advocate for, cost-effective medicines, equipment & maintenance for VISION 2020 eye care services
