Advocacy to Action is an online learning programme aimed to train and inspire eye health advocates around the world. The series will support eye health advocates to understand the policy context; actively engage in advocacy; and substantiate the need for integrated action, to effect the change needed for ‘eye health for all’. The series will highlight ‘why’, and ‘how’ the sector can work together to effectively advocate at global, regional, and national levels to achieve eye care services for all by 2030.

This is a pivotal time for advocacy for the eye health sector. The need is stark, with more than 1.1 billion people not being able to access the eye health services they need. Yet there is unprecedented opportunity with landmark political commitments for eye health at the United Nations, World Health Assembly and the Commonwealth to leverage, and a powerful new evidence base.

The programme will provide an overview of the eye health political landscape. It will cover developments including the WHO’s  World Report on Vision (2019), The Lancet Global Health Commission on Global Eye Health (2021), and advances at the United Nations to mainstream eye health within the Sustainable Development Goals.

Advocacy to Action will provide access to eye health leaders who have advocated with success at global, regional and in-country levels. It will prompt eye health advocates to consider how to best leverage global and local mechanisms, and use evidence effectively, to achieve change.
