Enabling the sharing of knowledge among members is one of the key strengths of IAPB’s Council meetings.
At the Council meeting in Paris, alongside updates from the IAPB Board and formal business at the AGM, delegates will have the opportunity to learn from and engage with an array of topics developed by members for members.
The first day of Council meetings on Saturday 20th September will be dedicated to a series of practical and interactive workshops addressing broader topical eye health issues –
- Implementing ‘Universal Eye Health: a Global Action Plan 2014-2019’ – CHAIR: Peter Ackland
A discussion on global, regional and national perspectives in the first year of the Global Action Plan, exploring main barriers to country implementation and how to overcome them.
- Preparing for the epidemic: diabetes and blindness – CHAIR: Lesley Podesta
A discussion with representatives from both the eye health and diabetes sectors focusing on current Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) initiatives in place and opportunities for further collaboration across sectors to tackle DR.
- Focus on Francophone Africa – CHAIR: Serge Resnikoff
French-speaking countries south of the Sahara have historically lagged behind the rest of the region in eye care provision. This session will look at the current state of affairs, what is already happening and what we can do as a sector to bring about positive change for eye care in Francophone Africa.
On the second day, 21st September, a range of shorter ‘rapid-fire’ presentations will focus on key specific issues, including –
- Disability inclusive practices
- Women in development
- Data visualization
- Quality assessments in cataract surgery
