Standard Chartered’s Financial Markets (FM) team held the eighth annual Broker Day on World Health Day, 7 April 2016, to raise funds for Seeing is Believing (SiB).
Broker Day is a Standard Chartered fundraising initiative which started in 2009 to raise funds for SiB. For one day each year, the Bank invites its brokers across the globe to donate the day’s brokerage fees payable by Standard Chartered to SiB, and the Bank matches all funds raised dollar-for-dollar.
This year, the team raised close to USD800,000 in commission donated by the brokers and funds matched by the Bank. The amount will fund around 25,000 sight restoring cataract operations or 50 community vision centres.
Chris Allington, Regional Head, Financial Markets Europe, is the Bank’s senior representative to champion the cause and he led this year’s successful fundraising efforts.
Commenting on the fundraiser, Chris said, “This year, we had good broker participation from all regions. Response has been very positive and we raised a good amount through personal donations too.”
Over the last eight years, Standard Chartered has raised over USD7 million for Seeing is Believing (including Bank matching funds) through Broker Day and this continues to be one of SiB’s largest global fundraisers.
