Since 2015, the IABP has opened the World Sight Day Photo Competition each year to showcase how eye health, when accessible to all, has a tremendous impact on individuals, communities and economies.
We thank the thousands of photographers from around the world, both amateur and professional, who have shared what they see with us.
We invite you to view the collection of prize-winning and finalist photos.
I love the smiles and interest of the children and adults. This image captures the excitement and willingness of the community members to get their eyes examined.
An eye nurse checking the visual acuity of an elderly man, before consultation, under a tree with community members including children waiting for their turn and friends to get theirs done. The picture is taken from the room of a mud house in which the consultant and eye exam is to be done.
The subject was very much excited. He helped with community engagement and encouraged most of the community members to have their eyes examined.
This was taken in Ebeye on Kwajalein atoll – Marshall Islands. Space is a big barrier here and we don’t have an actual eye clinic. I operate in what once was an eye clinic, which has been closed since 2016, and is now a storage space for COVID supplies. The client I’m serving is our dentist, and like many health workers on Ebeye, they do not get the privileges to have access or order glasses.
He is very happy because he needed custom made spectacles, and as a dentist with limited vision, he was able to be better with glasses. So, my picture basically portrays the importance of having everyone, especially health professionals, with good vision. Which improves the health service delivery.
I not only have made one more person happy but have also allowed chances for everyone to experience this life-changing experience.
