La reunión Regional de miembros de IAPB se desarrolló en México los días 15 y 16 de Junio del 2022 y contó con la participación de 7 paises miembros: México, Colombia, Argentina, Guatemala, Paraguay, Perú y Nicaragua. Gracias al Hospital de Prevención de la ceguera APEC por acogernos como anfitrión y a los representantes de: Instituto Mexicano de Oftalmología IMO, Hospital de La Luz, Hospital Conde de Valenciana, Instituto de La Visión, Hospital Divino Niño, Ver bien para Aprender Mejor, Fundación Ojo Sano, Fundación Oftalmológica del Caribe, Visualiza, Fundación Visión, Clinica Foster y Clinica Nano.

Se desarrollaron talleres dinámicos en torno a la estrategia 2030 In Sight y con ejemplos de la gestión de cada una de las instituciones se observó la forma de continuar trabajando en ACTIVAR, INTEGRAR Y ELEVAR el perfil del cuidado ocular, así como también oportunidades de mejora para los próximos 10 años de modo que logremos los objetivos y la misión de erradicar la ceguera prevenible para el año 2030.

Nuestro Director Regional el Doctor Francisco Martínez Castro destacó los logros de la iniciativa 2020 y planteó los principales retos que como región tenemos para seguir trabajando en la prevención de la ceguera en América Latina. Fue un espacio constructivo de ideas, experiencias exitosas, colegaje y recomendaciones constructivas entre pares para fortalecer el trabajo y las iniciativas en salud ocular en América Latina.

El evento fue patrocinado por IAPB, ROCHE y SOPHIA y contó con la participación de la Asociación Mexicana de Diabetes, el Vision Impact Institute y CBM Bolivia quienes también aportaron a la discusión de los talleres y están trabajando en la región iniciativas integradoras. Finalmente los miembros expresaron su interés en reunirse nuevamente en el evento de PAAO que será realizado en Buenos Aires Argentina en Marzo del 2023.


The Regional Meeting of IAPB members was held in Mexico on June 15 and 16, 2022 and was attended by 7 member countries: Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Guatemala, Paraguay, Peru, and Nicaragua. Thanks to the Hospital for the Prevention of Blindness APEC for welcoming us as host and to the representatives of: Mexican Institute of Ophthalmology IMO, Hospital de La Luz, Hospital Conde de Valenciana, Institute of Vision, Hospital Divino Niño, See well to Learn Better, Fundación Ojo Sano, Fundación Oftalmológica del Caribe, Visualiza, Fundación Visión, Clinica Foster and Clinica Nano; dynamic workshops were held around the 2030 In Sight strategy and with examples of the management of each of the institutions, it was observed how to continue working on ACTIVATE, INTEGRATE AND ELEVATE the profile of eye care, as well as opportunities for improvement for the next 10 years so that we achieve the goals and mission of eradicating preventable blindness by 2030.

Our Regional Director, Dr. Francisco Martínez Castro, highlighted the achievements of the 2020 initiative and outlined the main challenges that we have as a region to continue working on the prevention of blindness in Latin America. It was a constructive space for ideas, successful experiences, collegiality, and constructive recommendations among peers to strengthen the work and initiatives in eye health in Latin America.

The event was sponsored by IAPB, ROCHE and SOPHIA and included the participation of the Mexican Diabetes Association, the Vision Impact Institute and CBM Bolivia, who also contributed to the discussion of the workshops and are working on integrating initiatives in the region.
Finally, the members expressed their interest on meeting again in March 2023 during the PAAO meeting that will be held in Buenos Aires Argentina.
