MembershipOn 16 April 2026, Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh, in collaboration with Orbis International, established Nepal’s first Digital Training Hub at Biratnagar Eye Hospital under the Lahan Eye and Ear Health Care System, marking a major advancement in technology-driven eye care education.
The facility was inaugurated in Biratnagar by Koshi Province Health Minister Man Bahadur Limbu and Kathleen A. Sherwin, President and CEO of Orbis International. The hub represents a shift from conventional training approaches to modern, simulation-based learning.
Equipped with advanced surgical simulators, wet lab facilities, virtual learning platforms, and Cybersight-enabled tele-mentoring, the center will support ophthalmologists and eye care professionals to enhance clinical skills with improved safety, precision, and confidence. The training programs will engage participants from eye hospitals, medical colleges, and both public and private health institutions across Nepal, along with international trainees.
This initiative is expected to strengthen national and regional training capacity, reduce reliance on costly overseas training, and promote Nepal as a destination for medical education, contributing to the reduction of avoidable blindness.
