There is an election in New Zealand this year and the sector – led by IAPB member, Eye Health Aotearoa (EHA) is utilizing the 2030 In Sight play-book to ramp up advocacy and secure political commitments.
In 2022, the EHA launched the “Eye Care in Aotearoa New Zealand 2022: Eye Care Situation Analysis Tool (ECSAT)” report. Aotearoa New Zealand was the first developed health economy to complete the ECSAT. Eye Health Aotearoa is applying the ECSAT findings to frame their draft action plan for eye health in New Zealand. This discussion paper will provide a blueprint on how New Zealand can coordinate cross-sector action to make eye health count. Eye Health Aotearoa looks forward to engaging with many organisations and individuals in the non-government sector to share learnings and best practices, explore, and discuss priorities and actions for the decade. All of this takes place against a backdrop of the election cycle, providing excellent material for the New Zealand Parliamentary Friends of Vision.
Additionally, Dianne Rogers, Executive Officer, Eye Health Aotearoa will present at the IAPB 2030 IN SIGHT LIVE Singapore in the session “Experiences from the regions, implementing Integrated People-Centred Eye Care (IPEC)”. Dianne will speak to how to create the pre-conditions to achieve an ECSAT, which were also critical in laying the ground-work for the post-ECSAT advocacy pathway – good luck New Zealand as you walk that talk.
