In a combined session of the Western Pacific and Southeast Asia regions, IAPB members and stakeholders outlined the significant progress of Integrated People-Centred Eyecare under the 2030 In Sight Strategy. IAPB CEO, Peter Holland anchored the symposium with a presentation focussed on the current global priorities, whilst representatives from both regions and IAPB HQ provided examples from countries as diverse as Nepal, Laos, Indonesia and Singapore.
The World Health Assembly endorsed the Integrated People-Centred Eye Care for the decade, with global targets to achieve by 2030, and the United Nations General Assembly has realized eye health as a cross-cutting issue critical to achieving several SDG goals – these initiatives underpin IAPB’s global sectoral strategy, 2030 In Sight. The IAPB session at APAO focussed attention on the way that these initiatives are being translated into national eye health policies and plans – right where the actual changes need to happen.
