VISION 2020 Australia appoints new CEO

Vision 2020 Australia is pleased to announce the appointment of Judith Abbott as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective immediately.

Judith AbbottMs Abbott joins the organisation after an extensive career in government, prior to which she worked as an optometrist in Victoria and held clinical and management roles in the eye care sector.

Announcing Ms Abbott as CEO, Vision 2020 Australia Chair Amanda Vanstone said: “Judith brings a combination of skills, experience and networks alongside a strong strategic focus that has proven very helpful in her time to date with our organisation.

“It has been obvious from her brief time in the job that she has very quickly got on top of the key issues in the eye health sector and has been actively and effectively engaging with Vision 2020 Australia members,” Ms Vanstone said.

During her time in the Victorian public service Ms Abbott worked in a diverse range of areas including health workforce and regulation, aged care, mental health, drugs, preventive health and primary and community health, and gained extensive experience in policy, strategy, service design and advocacy.

Commenting on her appointment Ms Abbott said: “I am very pleased to have the opportunity to lead this organisation and work with staff, the Board and our members to progress towards our shared goal of eliminating avoidable blindness and improving vision care,” Ms Abbott said.

“Returning to the eye health and vision care sector after 15 years, I can see that there has been much achieved through the cross sector collaboration that is fostered by Vision 2020 Australia.

“There is still more to be done to support members and raise the profile around key issues for people at risk of or experiencing preventable vision loss or blindness. I look forward to making a significant contribution to Vision 2020 Australia and this important area.”
