Everyone at IAPB was sorry to hear of the loss of Dr Aldiana Halim, consultant ophthalmologist and an expert in public health. Dr Halim was an IAPB country chair for Indonesia and a great advocate of eye health.  

Dr Aldiana Halim, an ophthalmologist, was born on 25th April 1972. Since 2009, he had worked at Cicendo Eye Hospital, The National Center of Eye Health of Indonesia where most recently he was Head of Research Department having previously been a member of the Community Ophthalmology Department.  

Dr Halim graduated as a Medical Doctor from Padjadjaran University Bandung in 1997 and went on to graduate as an Ophthalmologist from Padjadjaran University in November 2007. Then, in 2016 he went on to graduate with a Master of Public Health for Eye Care from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. 

In 2020, Dr Halim received an award from the Ministry of Health of Indonesia for his contribution to the development of the Prevention Blindness programme in Indonesia. He also received an award for Outstanding Service In Prevention of Blindness in Indonesia from APAO (Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology). 

Dr Halim was a member of the Indonesian Ophthalmologist Association and the vice chairman of the Indonesian National Committee of Eye care. In 2020, he was a delegate to the Executive Board meeting of WHO with the Indonesia Ministry of Health supporting the landmark eye health resolution “Integrated people centered eye care, including preventable vision impairment and blindness”  

Dr Halim was married and leaves behind his wife, two sons and a daughter.

He will be missed very much by those who knew him and the thoughts of everyone at IAPB are with his family, friends and colleagues at this time.
