India Vision Institute has launched the second phase of their Drive Safe India campaign in Tamil Nadu state in association with Shell India. Some 25,000 commercial vehicle drivers are being vision screened over two months and those with refractive errors provided with corrective glasses. It was launched in Chennai on February 9 in the presence of UK’s Deputy High Commissioner in Chennai Paul Dryden, IVI’s CEO Vinod Daniel, Rtn. Satish Jupiter, President, Rotary Club of Chennai Towers, and Mike Muralidharan, Chairman, Ethiraj College for Women. The first phase of the campaign, in Karnataka state during October 2022-January 2023, covered 32,000 commercial vehicle drivers in Bangalore, Mysore, Dharwad, Belgaum, and Hubli.

The campaign aims to lower the risk of accidents caused due to driver impairment by assisting them to identify vision issues. It identifies, assesses and monitors the specific demographics of local drivers, taking into account linguistic and cultural barriers, to help realise targets, and create an environment for people to safely navigate roads.
