Join a powerful, unprecedented alliance for better eye health for all.
Join IAPBIt is now the final few weeks before World Sight Day,āÆa time when lots of our attention focusing on our plans and activations for the 10th October I had the privilege of visiting the headquarters of one of our World Sight Day Partners, National Vision Inc.āÆin Atlanta,āÆGeorgia.āÆĀ
This experience was to use the overused pun āeye-openingā,āÆhighlighting just some of the crucial work being done in the eye health sector and reinforcing the importance of collaborations like those between National Vision and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB).Ā
My first day began with a visit to one of the affiliates of Prevent Blindness, Prevent Blindness Georgia at the Hands of Hope Clinic,āÆa deeply moving experience that showcased the compassionate care provided to individuals facing significant challenges including extreme poverty.āÆWitnessing firsthand the impact of such services underscored the vital importance of National Vision’s partnerships within the community that it is most local too.āÆIt was a poignant reminder of the very reason we observe World Sight Day ā to raise awareness and ensure that everyone, regardless of circumstance,āÆhas access to the eye care they need.Ā
Later that day,āÆa tour of the National Vision Retail Support Center provided valuable insights into the company’s history, values,āÆand culture.āÆIt was inspiring to meet the passionate individuals who work tirelessly to bring National Vision’s business and mission to life.āÆTheir unwavering commitment to making quality eye care accessible to all was palpable,āÆevident in every interaction and initiative, including those they have with IAPB.Ā
My second day offered a glimpse into the future of eye care.āÆA tour of the National Vision Lab was a revelation and something I havenāt done in the 8 years I have worked in the eye health sector. It was great to see the cutting-edge technology and innovation behind crafting each unique pair of glasses, my preconception was that this would be a āfactory processā but I hadnāt appreciated how each individual pair of glasses are individual to the person who they will reach.āÆThe dedication to precision and personalisation was remarkable,āÆa testament to the company’s pursuit of excellence, while trying to keep the cost price affordable for the population that it serves.Ā
But perhaps the most unusual experience for me was a remote eye exam at one of National Vision’s āAmerica’s Bestā stores.āÆThis seamless blend of technology and in-store expertise demonstrated the potential to revolutionise access to care,āÆespecially in underserved areas.āÆIt was a powerful illustration of how technology and innovation can bridge gaps and bring essential services to those who need them most.Ā
Beyond the impactful experiences,āÆI was grateful by the warmth and hospitality extended throughout my visit. From the delicious Southern cuisine to the genuine kindness of everyone I met,āÆit was evident that National Vision’s commitment to care extends far beyond eye health.āÆIt’s a culture that fosters connection and truly embodies the spirit of compassion.Ā
As I reflect on this visit,āÆI’m filled with gratitude for the opportunity to witness firsthand the dedication and innovation driving accessible eye care.āÆIt’s a reminder that while World Sight Day is a moment to raise awareness,āÆthe work continues year-round.āÆTogether,āÆthrough collaboration,āÆcampaigning, advocacy,āÆand a shared commitment to a brighter future,āÆwe can create a world where everyone can see clearly.Ā
