Caio Abujamra
Organisation: Instituto Suel Abujamra
Role: CEO

Caio is the President of Instituto Suel Abujamra and co-CEO of Juntos pela Visão Alliance (United for Vision). After his father’s passing in December 2018, Caio Abujamra faced the challenge of assuming leadership at the Suel Abujamra Institute, an ophthalmology philantropic hospital. Through different initiatives, he significantly expanded the Institute’s outreach, multiplying patient attendance fivefold within five years. Under his guidance, the Institute emerged as the largest provider of ophthalmology services within the Brazilian public health system. Beyond serving São Paulo, Caio ensured the institution addressed indigenous communities’ needs, initiating expeditions to provide accessible eye care.

In 2022, through strategic efforts, Caio secured a partnership with the BID-LAB, focusing on innovative technology for remote eye care, particularly targeting indigenous populations. By 2025, the project aims to serve 25,000 indigenous individuals, distributing 5,000 eyeglasses and performing an additional 500 surgeries. Additionally, with support from the L’Occitane Foundation, tele-ophthalmology services were expanded, aiming to disseminate this model throughout Latin America and the Caribe.

By 2023, the Institute achieved remarkable milestones, conducting 177.000 medical consultations, 800.000 outpatient procedures, and over 12.000 surgeries. In 2023, the Institute joined other non-profit organizations to strengthen the fight against blindness of Juntos pela Visão (United for Vision) Alliance.
