Dr Caroline Harper has the Chief Executive of Sightsavers since 2005. As CEO, she built Sightsavers’ reputation within the wider development sector, and has increased its influence and recognition manifold.
Through her work at Sightsavers, she has helped set the VISION 2020 agenda across the world, including by supporting national eye health plans at the country-level, and global action plans and World Health Assembly resolutions at WHO. Sightsavers under her leadership has added substantial data on the prevalence and causes of vision impairment worldwide.
Dr Caroline Harper has a PhD in energy studies from the University of Cambridge. In 2000 she was awarded an OBE for services to the gas industry, and in 2015 she received a CBE for services to people with visual impairments. She has an honorary doctorate in science from the University of Bristol.
