Fanuel Nyakonda is an extremely dedicated Ophthalmic Nurse who works at the Sakubva Eye Unit in Manicaland Province, Zimbabwe. His commitment and leadership potential is truly remarkable. He is always thorough and exercises due diligence in his work and this leads to consistent high quality work. He is known for his interpersonal skills with patients and stakeholders and on many occasions he will volunteer to care for patients even after business hours when they turn up in large numbers. He is always willing to take on other responsibilities outside his normal scope of work.
“I love my role because it helps me to make a contribution in reducing avoidable blindness among vulnerable communities in the society. It also gives me an opportunity to learn more on the field of eye health care and influence strategic decisions regarding eye care services within the province. My role allows me to perform consultation counselling, refraction diagnosis and its management, participate in major surgeries as well as post-operative management. I like to make a mark in other peoples’ lives during my lifetime.”
Fanuel has a strong passion for Eye health and is eager to learn and grow further. One example of this is his involvement in eye health community education as part of efforts to further improve the eye care services. He is agile, extremely responsible and dependable and has shown remarkable initiative and resolve as shown by his willingness to attend to patients even under very difficult conditions during the COVID 19 crisis.
