His Royal Highness Abdulaziz bin Ahmed Al Saud was the regional Chair of the Eastern Mediterranean Region and played a critical role in the delivering of important World Health Assembly resolutions (and regional WHO resolutions as well). He helped ensure that every country in the Eastern Mediterranean passed a health plan for eye care, and that all 22 countries of EMR region adopted a ‘VISION 2020 resolution’ by 2004.
He is a leading humanitarian activist on the national, regional and international levels, with close links to the World Health Organization. He is founder and chairman of IMPACT–Eastern Mediterranean Region (a regional non-governmental organization NGO that is active in the field of prevention of blindness), and Middle East African Council of Ophthalmology (MEACO).
The Prince also received the IAPB Global Lifetime achievement award in 2004.
