The vibrant city of Kathmandu came alive with vision, passion, and purpose. It gathered over 800 delegates for the much anticipated 2030 IN SIGHT LIVE. From innovation-packed sessions to inspiring calls for action, the conference marked a bold step towards ending avoidable sight loss.
And Africa? Africa showed up and stood out. The region was not just represented; it was seen and heard, with 37 delegates from across Sub-Saharan Africa from Kenya to Ethiopia, Zambia and Ghana and beyond.

Here is a look at country representation in the 2030 ISL – Nepal

Africa Representation
Many participants played key roles as speakers, panelists, and most notably, as award winners. This mattered deeply as it ensured regional priorities, insights, challenges and progress are brought to light and incorporated in the discussions laying a foundation for action and accountability.
Among the stand out moments were two major recognitions from the region for the Systems leaders award:
• Tigist Tulu Gelashe – Program Manager, Outreach and Quality, Cure Blindness Project, Ethiopia
• Keitumetse Thamane – Programme Management Lead, Peek Vision, Botswana

“As a 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗲𝘆𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵, I was spoilt for choice with sessions packed with insights, innovation, and global perspectives. The conference not only expanded my knowledge but also sharpened my strategic vision for sustainable, inclusive eye care in Kenya. This conference has truly been a milestone in my professional journey. I returned home more inspired, connected, and equipped to enhance the impact of our work.” Stella Jane Program Manager, PCEA Kikuyu Hospital
