MembershipThe Vision Atlas has always been the go-to resource for the latest data and evidence on eye health. Now, it has been reimagined and refreshed — bigger, bolder, and more user-friendly than ever. To understand what’s new and why it matters, we spoke with Anthea, who guided the development of the new Vision Atlas.Â
Q: What’s new with the improved Vision Atlas?Â
Anthea: The Vision Atlas has undergone a complete transformation. We’ve expanded our data sources, now bringing together information from over 60 sources — including WHO, VLEG, RAAB studies, and the 2030 In Sight Progress surveys.Â
There are also expanded country-level dashboards, interactive comparison tools, and more engaging visualisations. Another important change is the way we’ve presented the information: the Vision Atlas now includes advocacy-ready storytelling so users don’t just see data — they can immediately use it in reports, campaigns, or funding proposals.Â
Q: How does this contribute to the broader objectives of 2030 In Sight?Â
Anthea: The Vision Atlas is fundamental to our global strategy. It helps us:Â
Q: How did you decide on these new features?Â
Anthea: Â The improvements are rooted in feedback. We listened to members, advocates, researchers, and policymakers who regularly use the Vision Atlas. What they asked for was clear: more detailed data, regular updates, sharper visuals, and tools that could make advocacy more effective. They also wanted better clarity on where the data comes from, and for researchers, stronger recognition of their contributions.Â
By combining these insights with the most authoritative global datasets, we were able to build a tool that is not just about storing information but about helping people tell powerful stories and drive change.Â
Q: Can you highlight three features that make the new Vision Atlas especially user-friendly?Â
Anthea: Certainly:Â
Q: What’s next for the Vision Atlas?Â
Anthea: The Vision Atlas will continue to evolve. We’re committed to keeping the data updated and expanding its usability. Most importantly, we want it to remain a living resource that reflects the latest evidence and empowers the global eye health community to take action.Â
Q: Any final thoughts for our readers?Â
Anthea: The Vision Atlas is more than a data hub — it’s a tool for action. Whether you’re an advocate, policymaker, or researcher, I’d encourage you to explore it, use it, and share it widely. Together, this resource can help us deliver on the promise of 2030 In Sight.Â
