MembershipThe Center’s Trachoma Control Program supports national efforts to eliminate Trachoma as a public health problem through implementation of the SAFE strategy—Surgery, Antibiotics, Facial cleanliness, and Environmental improvement.
The Carter Center, in partnership with Emory University, is guided by a fundamental commitment to human rights and the alleviation of human suffering. The Center works to prevent and resolve conflicts, advance freedom and democracy, and improve health. We envision a world where communities have the tools, resources, and support to wage peace, fight disease, and build hope. We pursue this vision by doing the hard things in hard places while deliberately transferring ownership to our in-country staff, partners, and stakeholders as one Carter Center.
Within its Health Programs, The Carter Center works with ministries of health and international partners to control, eliminate, and eradicate diseases that disproportionately affect underserved populations as well as mental health and caregiving, collaborating with peace and across health programs, and building the capacity of health systems where we work. Health Programs collaborate closely with the Center’s Peace Programs to uphold the vision of the Center’s founders by working with local stakeholders to prevent and mediate conflicts and to promote democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. This integrated approach helps to promote the conditions of peaceful societies that facilitate access to fundamental rights, including health.
The Center’s Trachoma Control Program supports national efforts to eliminate Trachoma as a public health problem through implementation of the SAFE strategy—Surgery, Antibiotics, Facial cleanliness, and Environmental improvement. These efforts emphasize community engagement, strengthening surveillance systems, supporting national program management, and improving access to prevention and treatment services in remote and underserved communities.
