Diabetic Retinopathy and the Decade of Action

Date: Tuesday, 16th November

Time: 1300 to 14.30 GMT

Impaired vision and eye health have a broader impact on general health and well-being. The global DR burden is expected to remain high through 2045, disproportionately affecting countries in the Middle East and North Africa and the Western Pacific. Leveraging the recent United Nations General Assembly Resolution on Eye Health, the webinar will discuss the opportunities to elevate DR into the social, economic and/or development 2030 agenda such as the Decade for Healthy Aging, Decent Work and Economic Growth.

Aim: The session aims to discuss how an elevated and integrated approach can help combat the disease burden of DR and achieve the promise of Universal Health Care and Sustainable Development Goals.

Format: Panel Discussion followed by moderated Q&A with Audience.

Talking Points:

  • What could be the possible pathways to ensure that the ‘not accessed’ are ‘accessed’ and provided with necessary care and support?
  • What can be done to influence decision makers and governments to ensure ‘Eye Health’ is mainstreamed?
  • What have we learnt so far about the effectivity of a multi-disciplinary care pathway and community – based services where patient care is the centre?
