Dr. Adnan Abdul Majeed, FCPS (Ophthalmology), MRCS (Glasgow), FRCS (Glasgow), is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Academic Coordinator at the Sindh Institute of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences (SIOVS), Hyderabad, Pakistan. He is also a certified Health Professions Educator with a strong commitment to systems strengthening in eye health, workforce development, and digital education.
At SIOVS, Dr. Majeed has led initiatives that bridge public eye health with clinical ophthalmology through an integrated systems-based approach. Recognizing the inequitable access to trained eye care providers in remote districts of Sindh, he collaborated with multiple eye care organizations to implement structured capacity-building programs. Under his leadership, 35 medical officers from underserved districts were trained in direct ophthalmoscopy and the management of common ocular conditions, promoting decentralized service delivery and strengthening referral pathways to tertiary care. He has also contributed to hands-on training of ophthalmologists from various districts in advanced ophthalmic procedures and surgical techniques.
As Academic Coordinator, he established a structured postgraduate training system at SIOVS, organizing regular academic activities including interactive lectures, surgical workshops, mock examinations, and viva sessions. Serving as the focal person for IOFF at SIOVS, he designed and implemented a structured three-month cataract surgery fellowship module for international fellows, supporting sustainable workforce development and cross-border knowledge exchange.
Beyond institutional leadership, Dr. Majeed is an emerging ophthalmic digital educator. During his early residency, he identified critical gaps in standardized ophthalmology training and public eye health awareness, particularly the limited reach of conventional learning platforms. In response, he launched a digital education initiative in November 2020 to democratize access to ophthalmic knowledge through a globally accessible platform. He has since produced over 219+ educational videos covering clinical case discussions, cataract surgery training, examination preparation, career mentorship, and public awareness. His platform has garnered more than 140,000+ views and over 3,222+ subscribers, positioning him among Pakistan’s youngest ophthalmology digital educators.
He has further expanded this initiative through academic groups on social media platforms, strengthening peer learning and professional collaboration. Dr. Majeed is the author of the book Ocular Investigation, available on Amazon, and has published seven research articles in national and international peer-reviewed journals. He is a regular presenter at regional and international ophthalmology conferences and has delivered invited talks on the role of social media in ophthalmic education.
Through clinical service, academic leadership, and digital innovation, Dr. Majeed continues to contribute to equitable, sustainable, and system-oriented eye health development in Pakistan and beyond.
