There are 17 million people blind from cataract globally. Most cataracts can be fixed with a safe and affordable 15-minute procedure yet half of all people with the condition have no access to surgery. In some areas, many will die without ever having their cataract treated.

The World Health Assembly has set an ambitious target for an increase of 30% in effective cataract surgical coverage (eCSC) by 2030.

In this webinar, new data modelling research by the International Centre for Eye Health, published in The Lancet journals on the day, will reveal how countries are tracking to achieve the 2030 target, alongside the number of people who die without having surgery in Kenya. WHO will also introduce the latest guidelines and materials to address cataract surgical quality.
