I recently represented the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) at the Association of Association Executives (AAE) World Congress in Florence, Italy. The congress brought together association executives from around the world to share best practices and learn from each other.

It was a great opportunity for IAPB to be a part of this event and to share our work with other associations. We presented on our Love Your Eyes campaign to make eye health accessible, available, and affordable to everyone, and we also received two awards that we won earlier this year: Association of the Year and Best Campaign of the Year.

One of the highlights of the congress was the sessions on events. We learned about the challenges and opportunities of hosting annual events in a post-pandemic world. We also discussed the importance of creating events that are both engaging and effective. This came shortly after our global event in Singapore, and so as we prepare for our next global event in Mexico it was a great opportunity to reflect.

I also attended a session on successful membership engagement. This session focused on the importance of providing value to members and of promoting member benefits. We learned about some creative ways to engage a vast range of members, which we will look to bring to IAPB in the coming months.

Overall, the AAE World Congress was a valuable experience, it was great to learn from other associations and share our work with a wider audience. It was great to have opportunity to participate in this event and I am excited to apply what was learned at the congress to our own work at IAPB.
