Dr. Sarhej Nava – García is currently Head of the First Time Patients Service at the Mexican Institute of Ophthalmology (IMO).
She is a graduate of the School of Medicine, University of San Luis Potosí, finishing second in her class. She further pursued the specialty of Ophthalmology at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the IMO, becoming its Chief Resident during her final year of training. She has been accepted by the LV Prasad Eye Institute in India to undergo her Specialty in Cornea and will return to the IMO in 2022 as Head of Service.
In August 2020 she took the examination for the Mexican Council of Ophthalmology and was approved on the first attempt. In the same year, she also obtained second place on the national level from PUEM; an exam that evaluates all the Residents affiliated to UNAM cohort.
With the IMO’s Medical Director, Dr. Ellery López, she has participated in the development and implementation of a rapid evaluation system based on OCT. The new system will be implemented at all the IMO’s vision centers, as well as through its teleophthalmology program. She has also been instrumental in help develop all the Outreach system and collaborated in several research protocols and papers of the IMO and is considered one of the best proctors for the residents.
In summary, Dr. Nava García is a rising star who will help further the training and Public Health activities in Mexico.
