Amanda has nearly twenty year’s working experience in international development sectors, with a focus on children’s welfare, community development and eye health. She has been with The Fred Hollows Foundation for 12 years and is now the Chief Representative for the programme in China.
Amanda has good understanding of health system in China and experience in working with a variety of health facilities, government sectors and rural communities. She has also supported eye care programmes’ planning and evaluation in neighbouring countries, including Bangladesh, India and Indonesia. Amanda is alumni of London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in Public Health for Eye Care.
Dr Wei HE, MD, PhD, a passionate leader in blindness prevention in China, has more than 30 years’ experience in ophthalmology. After obtaining his PHD in Pathology of Ophthalmosurgery from Kyushu University in Japan in 1993, he got his postdoctoral fellowship in Pathology of Ophthalmosurgery from Fukuoka University in Japan in 1995. He is the founder and president of He Vision Group, which combines with He University, 100 He Eye Specialist Hospitals and Clinics, He Postgraduate institute of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences and China Eye Industry Base. It has been proven to be a good solution to solve eye problems in China. Dr. He is the chairman of Ophthalmic Pathology Committee, Chinese Ophthalmological Society (COS) and Vice Chairman of the Chinese National Guiding Committee for the Prevention of Blindness.
He was elected as the board of trustee member of Ophthalmology Foundation and International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness. He is also the Editor of the editorial committee of Chinese Journal of Ophthalmology and several other important journals in China. Dr He was rewarded more than 100 Awards from Asia-Pacific Association of Ophthalmology, Chinese Medical Association and many other related organizations. Dr Wei He, as the Member of CPPCC, is involved in the central government strategy planning for medical reforms in China.
He founded the National Training Center for Blindness Prevention and Treatment in 2012, which is the only official national-wide training center in eye health in China. So far, the Training Center has trained nearly 40,000 people in ophthalmic skills and eye health management. In 2017, he set up the first and only National Eye Gene Bank in China, which opens a new era of precision ophthalmic medicine in China. He was granted International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) Outstanding Achievement Award in 2019, which was first issued at IAPB.

Hujeong has nearly 20 years of working experience in the international development sector, with a focus on eye health, neglected tropical diseases control, and WASH. She based on her majors in social welfare and global governance, and has been carrying out projects in a way that community empowerment and governance strengthening.
In particular, since 2009, eye health-oriented projects have been developed and carried out in Bangladesh, Cambodia, the Philippines, Tanzania, Burundi, Malawi, and Uzbekistan, mainly focusing on strengthening eye health at the primary health level and health system, and empowering community residents to seek their health right. Currently, she is trying to expand her interests and experiences into Non-Communicable Diseases prevention and control.
Sangchul Yoon is a Professor at the Yonsei University College of Medicine. He is an ophthalmologist with sub-specialties in cornea and preventive ophthalmology. In 2018, he obtained his doctorate in public health from Yonsei University. He is a public health expert who bridges the gap between the laboratory and the field in order to generate evidence. His research interests have centred on innovative health accessibility and efficiency enhancing technologies, such as digital health and artificial intelligence.
Prof. Yoon has served as Vice Director of the Centre for Global Development at the Yonsei university health system to enhance the health status and accessibility of people in low- and middle-income countries. As the principal investigator on a number of humanitarian research grants, a number of global health initiatives have been implemented, including the use of mobile health (mHealth) systems in rural areas of Malawi, Bangladesh, Morocco, Nepal, and Vietnam.
Dr Carolina has been working with social impact projects on childhood eye health for about eight years. She began her career in NGOs and today works to strengthen actions at SBOP to promote eye health and to combat blindness and visual impairment in children. She holds a degree in Medicine from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), specialization in Ophthalmology from the same institution and, in Paediatric Ophthalmology, at the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP), where she is currently developing her PhD program in the field of Telehealth in Ophthalmology.

Chief Medical Officer at Renovatio, Bruna is internationally awarded for her contributions to social ophthalmology. Bruna was awarded the Knights Templar Eye Foundation Award in ARVO 2019 (Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology) for the study “Ophthalmological Care and Eyeglasses Distribution in Brazil’s Countryside: Descriptive and Epidemiological Data of Nearly Five Thousand Patients”. This paper describes the largest ophthalmology social outreach known worldwide. For the same work, she was also awarded the 47 Varilux Prize in Brazil (the most important scientific prize in eye care in Brazil). It was presented in the American Academy of Ophthalmology in 2019.
At Renovatio, Bruna is responsible for creating the medical protocols and coordinates a team of ophthalmologists. With Bruna’s leadership, the medical team at Renovatio already served more than 350.000 people in 25 of the 27 Brazilian states, and also Mozambique, Haiti, and India. Bruna is the medical leader of the recently announced alliance between Renovatio, Instituto Suel Abujamra, and Instituto Verter, which is becoming the biggest social eye-care organization in Latin America.
Despite her social work, Bruna is the most prominent youth name in Retina Surgery in Brazil. Bruna had her post-graduation in Retina Surgery at the University of Montreal, where she performed more than 2.000 complex surgeries in a two-year program. Bruna had her medical retina fellowship, ophthalmology residence, and medical graduation at UNICAMP in São Paulo, Brazil.
