About World Sight Day

World Sight Day (WSD) is an international day of awareness, held annually on the second Thursday of October to focus attention on the global issue of eye health. This year World Sight Day falls on 14th October 2021 and the theme for this year is: #LoveYourEyes

In 2021 IAPB, along with our World Sight Day Global Partners, IAPB Patrons, Members, want to encourage everyone to think about the importance of their own eye health.

World Sight Day (WSD) is co-ordinated by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB). WSD became an official IAPB event in the year 2000, and has been marked in many different ways in countries around the world each year since then, including Her Majesty The Queen joining us in 2020.

On World Sight Day, IAPB members work together to:

  • Raise public awareness of blindness and vision impairment as major international public health issues.
  • Influence Governments/Ministers of Health to participate in and designate funds for national blindness prevention
  • Educate target audiences about blindness prevention.

This World Sight Day, let’s tell the world why it is important to #LoveYourEyes and why EVERYONE COUNTS

Date: Thursday, 14th October 2021

World Sight Day Activities

Every year, hundreds of activities are planned and executed on WSD.

While many are featured on the IAPB website’s Activity Report, this does not indicate the full scale, as organisers of events are requested but not obliged to report to IAPB.

While the global WSD theme and certain core materials are generated by IAPB, events are organised independently by IAPB member and supporter organisations.
