Expanding Eye Care to Underserved Communities: Under Project Drishyam and Project Vision In, comprehensive eye examinations were conducted for fishermen and school children, reaching over 1400 beneficiaries with spectacles and referrals. On World Optometry Week, 16 optometrists from OCI’s Unsung Heroes and Women Leadership Program provided comprehensive eye examinations for over 2,000 individuals, distributed 930+ free spectacles and made 330+ referrals across diverse underserved settings including schoolchildren, elderly residents, roadside vendors and zoo workers.
Capacity Building & Continuing Education: OCI accredited multiple national conferences and international online courses. The Low Vision Assessment and Rehabilitation Series covered clinical assessment, device selection and psychosocial rehabilitation for 50+ participants. The OCI SPARK Women Leadership Program 3.0 engaged 30 participants from across optometry sectors, featuring a dedicated International Women’s Day panel discussion on leadership pathways for women in optometry.
Advocacy & International Engagement: OCI engaged with the International Eye Care Alliance (IECA) on interdisciplinary collaboration, participated in the GOPHA Conference to advance SPECS 2030 priorities and represented optometry at the Vision & Road Safety Conference.
Across all programmes, OCI’s work in Q1 2026 reflects a strong commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals, SDG 3 (Good Health), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) reinforcing optometry’s role in building equitable, inclusive health systems.
