The Flaum Eye Institute is dedicated to preserving, improving and restoring vision for all. This includes clinical work as well as education and research. Our main work focuses on Upstate NY with a catchment area of 4 million people.

Our population health effort has focused on (1) the use of telemedicine in primary care offices throughout the region to screen for glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy; (2) the use of our “Vision Van” to “Deliver Eye Care to Our Community” by performing screening and follow up exams for children in the Rochester School District as well as adults in underserved and rural areas; (3) partnering with the Goodwill of Rochester to provide low vision and vision rehabilitation services to the Finger Lakes region.

We are exploring international ophthalmology training of our residents and fellows in collaboration with the LV Prasad Eye Institute. We have also made recent contract with ophthalmology providers in Mali (Rochester’s sister city) to see if we can partner with them to improve eye care delivery in their country.
