Prof William (Bill) Morgan

Prof William (Bill) Morgan

MD Lions Eye Institute; University of Western Australia

Prof William Morgan is a Glaucoma subspecialist (MB BS, FRANZCO) with a PhD in optic nerve physiology, managing director of the Lions Eye Institute, and Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Western Australia. His basic research studies pressure gradients in and around the optic nerve with interest in the effect of CSF pressure. Derived from this, he has recently been pursuing a greater understanding of retinal venous pulsation and its relationship to CSF pressure and glaucoma. In collaboration with Prof Yu, he was involved with the development of gelatin microfistula surgery for glaucoma therapy, which is currently being widely used internationally (XEN Allergan). He has a clinical and research interest in glaucoma surgery and the teaching of drainage surgery techniques generally, particularly in Indonesia. He is also the co-inventor of the Virna GDD, glaucoma drainage device that was recently launched in Indonesia. He has an interest in the epidemiology of blindness in the general community and in Australian indigenous communities in particular. He holds 7 patents and has published over 125 papers.

Dr Indira Paudyal is renowned glaucoma consultant dealing with both adult and pediatric cases at Nepal’s Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology. She has presented at many international ophthalmic conferences and has many peer-reviewed papers to her credit, including being a co-investigator on Nepal’s first epidemiological prevalence study on glaucoma.

  • Dr Rashima Asokan is currently Assistant Professor at Elite School of Optometry and leads the occupational optometry services of Sankara Nethralaya.
  • She is actively involved in clinical research in Glaucoma. She, along with the study team has published their works in many national and international peer-reviewed journals and currently holds more than 30 peer-reviewed publications. She also holds as a reviewer for international journals.
  • She has presented at various national and international conferences and received awards; To name a few: Young scientist award and Golden Jubilee award from the Indian Association of Occupational Health. She is also a proud recipient of Endeavor Executive Fellowship (Australia) and a competitive grant from the Glaucoma Foundation (The US).
  • Her area of research includes environmental effects on the eye, Glaucoma, Occupational ocular disorders, Innovative education models in Optometry.

Suresh Pattathil is the General Manager, AbbVie India (Allergan is now a part of AbbVie). With more than 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, Suresh has held several senior management positions in companies such as Pfizer, Schering Plough, MSD and Ferring. Most recently he was the Chief Executive Officer for Ferring Pharmaceuticals India with responsibility for Commercial operations, Research & Development center and setting up a pilot plant and manufacturing facility in Hyderabad. He has a broad experience in both specialty as well as mass therapeutic areas and in launching global products successfully in India.
