IAPB Latin America Regional Chair

Francisco Martínez Castro is the IAPB Regional Chair for Latin America. He is a distinguished ophthalmologist specialising in retinal care and is a world renown expert in Diabetic Retinopathy. He has played a key role in bringing attention to public health eye care issues across the Latin American region, including his work for Diabetic Retinopathy. He was the co-editor of the PAAO and IAPB DR clinical guidelines in 2012, and the later version which was produced in consultation with ICO, APAO and IAPB. He is the recipient of many awards including IAPB Regional award in 2012.

An Ophthalmologist with a sub-specialty in Glaucoma. She is the founder and Medical Director of the Vasquez Ophthalmology and Glaucoma Institute. She studied Medicine at the Catholic University of Cuenca and obtained the title of specialist in Ophthalmology at the Vozandes Quito Hospital, she has a subspecialty (Fellow) in Glaucoma, thanks to his training with Dr. Paul Palmberg, at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute of the University of Miami, USA. she teaches the Postgraduate Ophthalmology at the Central University of Ecuador and is a member of the Liaison Medical Advisory Committee of the World Glaucoma Association (WGA) with the World Committee of Glaucoma Patients (WGPC).

Mariana Badillo Fernández completed her career as a doctor at the Faculty of Medicine of the Autonomous University of Querétaro. she studied as an Ophthalmologist and High Specialty in Glaucoma at the Hospital Conde de Valenciana IAP. The physician assigned to the Glaucoma service since 2011 at the Mexican Institute of Ophthalmology, IAP and as of 2013 she is Head of the Glaucoma Services.

Dr. Carolina P. Barbosa is currently a Professor at the Federal University of Sao Paulo, where she received her medical degree (UNIFESP 2007). She completed an Ophthalmology residency including a chief medical resident year at the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP 2009 2011), and finished her fellowship in Glaucoma and Ocularplasty. She has also completed her PhD from UNIFESP as well as her Glaucoma Research Fellowship from UCSD San Diego at the Hamilton Glaucoma Center.
