Background and Objectives: Corneal disease is the second most frequent cause of blindness in many developing nations. The important causes include corneal ulcers and trauma. In India over a million people are affected and the majority of them are in the younger age group. The same is true in many Southeast Asia countries. Management of corneal blindness includes prevention at the primary level, treatment of corneal infection at the secondary level, and vision restoration with corneal transplantation in the tertiary level of care.

Thrust Areas: The webinar will familiarize the stakeholders with the current prevalence of corneal disease, discuss the required program aimed at preventive and curative care of corneal diseases and blindness. Thrust will be given on the action points required to be taken in the member states to promote the topic in question.

Expected Outcomes:

  1. At the end of the program, the participants would be familiar with the methods of preventing and treating corneal infection.
  2. Will understand the varied causes of ocular trauma and their prevention
  3. Will be able to advocate for and support better eye banking services
  4. Will be able to advocate for strengthened programs for cornea donation in their countries
