In order to promote and publicise the CBM/BHVI Child Eye Health SiB programme, the programme commemorated the 2017 World Sight Day on 12th October in collaboration with the FMoH and IAPB. Three hundred and fifty (350) students and Youth Corp members participated in the street walk in central Abuja, and an awareness lecture was held at Abuja’s Cyprian Ekwensi Centre for Art and Culture. A quiz was organized for secondary school pupils, in order to test their understanding of the lecture on child eye health.

The World Eye Sight Day (WSD) event generated considerable public awareness, impact and visibility for the SiB programme.

After the awareness lecture, key officers from the coordination unit and partners participated in a phone-in discussion programme on the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria; listener numbers were high, and the programme attracted a lot of questions and interest from the public. The World Sight Day event was covered on radio and television news, and in five newspapers.
