Uncorrected Refractive Error (URE) is a major public health concern. The annual global productivity loss due to URE was 269 billion international dollars in 2012. URE impacts lifestyle, well-being and quality of life for everyone affected.

The “Spectacle Coverage Report” looks at current national data on spectacle coverage. Written by Adriane Becker Contreras and Peter Ackland, the report looks at 27 countries where national level data are available ( 13 Latin American, 6 Asian, 5 African, 2 European and 1 Eastern Mediterranean).

The report highlights that the greatest burden of URE is in older populations. It also notes considerable differences in the diagnosis and treatment of URE.
