Sad News: Uduak Udom

The World Council of Optometry has announced the sad news that their Immediate Past President, optometric colleague and friend, Dr. Uduak Udom has passed away after a long and courageous battle with illness. Dr Udom was also an IAPB Eye Health Hero–one of our very first.

The WCO notice notes her commitment to the organisation and Optometry despite health challenges over the past few years. “Dr. Udom was an icon in optometry as she paved a path and set a standard of decency and exemplary leadership. She was a mentor to many and will be remembered for her many firsts in Nigeria, Africa and for women in optometry worldwide”, said Dr Scott Mundle, President, WCO.

IAPB would like to join WCO in expressing our condolences to her husband, Ezekiel, to her children and to her friends and colleagues.

The WCO will formally recognize Dr. Udom’s legacy at a later date.
