the Brien Holden Vision Institute logoUganda has received another four-year “Seeing is Believing” project. Brien Holden Vision Institute is going to implement the Mubende Comprehensive Eye Health project in four districts that comprise of the Mubende Health Region namely Mubende, Mityana, Kiboga and Kyankwanzi districts. This region is one of the most underserved health regions in the country, hence the justification for its selection. There is a shortage of human resources and equipment. This project will play a role in building capacity, infrastructure development, increase service delivery including surgery, strengthen the referral system and support rehabilitation. The project will also link with the education sector by establishing a school screening programme. The Institute is working within the government structure and with government staff to ensure sustainability and ownership at both the national and district level.

The Ministry of Health in Uganda launched the Mubende Comprehensive Eye Health project. The chief guest was the Honourable Minister of Health who was represented by the Minister of State for Health (General Duties), the Honourable Sarah Opendi. She came with a delegation from the ministry which included the Acting Director General of Health, the Commissioner of Community Health and the National Eye Health Coordinator. The President’s office was represented by the Resident District Commissioner. Representatives from all four project districts also attended. Standard Chartered Bank delegation was led by the new CEO, Mr. Alfred Saltson. Several eye care developmental partners attended the launch to support the Institute on this occasion to show collaboration.
