Vision Aid Overseas are seeking a new Trustee who has the attributes to take over as Chair of their Board of Trustees in the autumn of 2018, when the current Chair comes to the end of his term. This is an opportunity to help shape the fortunes of a charity whose work is transforming the lives of hundreds of thousands of people across Africa. They have ambitious plans to reach many more, both in those countries where we currently operate and in new locations.

They are looking for someone with strong corporate governance skills, with a track record of leading organisations in the successful pursuit of strategy. Ideally, you will be someone who understands the international development space and even better if this is in the arena of vision and eye care. You will be committed to the key policies of VAO (on Harassment and Misconduct, Recruitment of ex-offenders, Child Protection and Anti-Bribery) with the resolve and leadership to take appropriate action when necessary. You will be well networked and willing to tap into your networks to promote Vision Aid Overseas’ goals. You will possess the gravitas and communication skills to represent the charity effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.

Trustees

Vision Aid Overseas are seeking three new Trustees to join their Board of Trustees.

They are looking for trustees who are interested and committed to the aims of Vision Aid Overseas and would like to join a dynamic Board. You will have governance responsibility for overseeing the affairs of the charity and ensuring it is solvent, well-run with thorough safeguarding procedures in place and delivering the charitable outcomes for the benefit of the public for which it has been set up.

In line with their equal opportunities policy they welcome the widest possible range of expressions of interest in order to increase the diversity of their Board. They are particularly interested in applications from people with a background and experience in the following areas:

  • Corporate fund-raising and/or working with Major Donors
  • International development, particularly in Africa
  • Experience of working in/with Global Institutions such as WHO, the World Bank, UN
  • Public Relations and the media

They also welcome applicants based in Africa (in our partner countries).

This role is not remunerated but modest expenses will be paid.
