Join a powerful, unprecedented alliance for better eye health for all.
Join IAPBKathmandu, Nepal [30 April 2025] – The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) has brought together over 800 delegates, in person and online, for 2030 IN SIGHT LIVE in Kathmandu. The event underscores the urgency of shaping collective action to confront the global eye health crisis and tackle one of the world’s most pressing health challenges.
The Right Honourable Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli, Prime Minister of Nepal addressed delegates, saying, “Today, we do not gather to speak of eye health in isolation, but to recognise it as a central force in shaping the broader arc of human development — from poverty reduction and education to gender equality and economic growth… In Nepal, we have included eye health in our Voluntary National Review for precisely this reason. We see the evidence, we see the urgency, and that which gets measured gets done. We also see the opportunity.”
“But Nepal cannot walk this path alone. Nor can any country. This is why the world must come together — not in words, but in unity, action, and shared responsibility. And so, today, I am proud to reaffirm Nepal’s full support for the Global Summit for Eye Health,” he added.
Caroline Casey, IAPB President echoed these sentiments, stating “We are here in the fourth year of 2030 IN SIGHT LIVE. You can feel the momentum and see the results of everyone coming together for eyecare”
Building on the successes of previous 2030 IN SIGHT LIVE events in Dubai, Singapore, and Mexico City, the gathering in Kathmandu continues to drive progress toward universal eye health for all and galvanize enthusiasm for the Global Summit for Eye Health.
“For many governments, in the face of such change to the political situation, eye health is not at the top of their agenda especially when health systems are under such strain. Therefore, it is incredibly reassuring to hear of the Prime Ministers dedication to eye health as such an important part of Nepal’s national plans,” said Peter Holland, IAPB CEO. He added, “I urge all of our delegates, joining us online and here in Kathmandu, to consider the Prime Ministers words and over the next few days approach discussions with 2030 as not just a deadline, but a turning point toward a future that is more inclusive, more equitable and more visible.”
The event celebrates strong support from companies and organisations across the eye care sector, including event Changemakers, CBM, The Chen Yet-Sen Family Foundation, CooperVision, Cure Blindness Project, The Fred Hollows Foundation, National Vision, Roche and Seva Foundation.
