LOVE YOUR EYES – ACCESSIBLE, AVAILABLE AND AFFORDABLE EYE HEALTH

We need to make the case loudly and repeatedly that eye health is not an optional extra. It is vital to everything. Campaigning will educate, raise the profile of preventable sight loss, unlock political will and help tackle the stigma around simple and easy treatments.

There remains a lack of understanding of the vital importance of eye health and its direct impact on wider social and economic issues among those who have the ability and responsibility to make a difference, including in academia, civil society, national governments and international financial institutions. Individuals and communities around the world must be empowered to make their vision a priority, understand the link with their wider health, grasp the social and economic impacts of inaction, and advocate for the change and improvement needed to prevent sight loss. Campaigning on a new level, in a new way and using existing campaigns like Love Your Eyes will educate the public, governments, and world leaders to help raise the profile of the issue. It will unlock political will and help tackle paralyzing issues such as the stigma and negative stereotyping associated with vision impairment and wearing glasses. Through collective advocacy and actions, we can make sure eye health receives the global political, health and development focus it needs and deserves.
