Con motivo de la 75va edición del evento, el Comité Organizador de este importante evento convocó al Doctor Francisco Martínez Castro como director regional de IAPB para América Latina a participar en un Panel de Discapacidad Visual, limitación que va en aumento en México.

Participaron otras áreas de especialidad, compartieron sus experiencias y la situación actual de las 4 patologías causantes de esta situación:  Catarata, Glaucoma, Retinopatía Diabética y Degeneración Macular relacionada con la Edad.

Se revisaron las prevalencias de estas causas en México y se hicieron sugerencias para promover el auto cuidado del binomio paciente / familiar, asi mismo sugerencias para promover la identificación temprana y referencia oportuna de nuevos casos.
El evento concluyo con recomendaciones de mayor divulgación en eventos académicos y estrategias para trabajar en unión con los  programas de Entrenamiento de nuevos oftalmólogos en nuestra Región,  para promover una visión de Salud Pública y estrategias en el Cuidado de la Salud Visual a los oftalmólogos en formación.

During the 75th edition of the event, the Organizing Committee of this important event invited Dr. Francisco Martínez Castro as regional director of IAPB for Latin America to participate in a Panel on Visual Impairment, a limitation that is increasing in Mexico.

Other specialty areas participated, sharing their experiences and the current situation of the 4 pathologies causing visual impairment: Cataract, Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy and Age-related Macular Degeneration.

The prevalence of these causes in Mexico was reviewed and suggestions were made to promote self-care of the patient/family binomial, as well as suggestions to promote early identification and timely referral of new cases.

The event concluded with recommendations for greater dissemination in academic events and strategies to work in conjunction with the Training programs for new ophthalmologists in our Region, to promote a vision of Public Health and strategies in Visual Health Care to ophthalmologists in training.
