XIV Curso Internacional de Salud Ocular Comunitaria (CISOC 2025), del Instituto Nacional de Oftalmología (INO) – Perú
El Instituto Nacional de Oftalmología (INO) fue la sede de un importante ciclo de capacitación en salud visual los días 22 y 23 de septiembre, destacando la realización del XIV Curso Internacional de Salud Ocular Comunitaria (CISOC 2025), junto a los cursos especializados en Óptica y Optometría, Baja Visión, y Enfermería Oftalmológica.
El objetivo central de estos eventos fue fortalecer las competencias del personal de salud del primer y segundo nivel de atención, contribuyendo así a la meta de disminuir la prevalencia de ceguera en el Perú.
Una de las participaciones más destacadas fue la de Cristina Sánchez, Coordinadora para Latinoamérica de la Agencia Internacional para la Prevención de la Ceguera (IAPB). Sánchez tuvo el honor de asistir y disertar ante los participantes sobre la estrategia “2030 Insight” de la IAPB, un plan crucial para la salud ocular global.
La colaboración con la IAPB y la participación en un evento de la modalidad híbrida (virtual y presencial) en el INO, demuestra el compromiso conjunto en la formación del personal sanitario regional.
Participación de IAPB en el Congreso Oftalmociencia INO 2025 (24 al 27 de septiembre)
La Agencia Internacional para la Prevención de la Ceguera (IAPB) tuvo una participación destacada en el Congreso Oftalmociencia INO 2025, celebrado del 24 al 27 de septiembre en el Instituto Nacional de Oftalmología.
La representación de la IAPB estuvo liderada por la Dra. Valeria Sánchez Huerta, Presidenta de la Región Latinoamérica, quien actuó como disertante clave durante el evento. También asistió Cristina Sánchez, Coordinadora para Latinoamérica, reafirmando el compromiso de la organización con la salud visual en la región.
Reunión con el Ministro de Salud
Se concretó un encuentro crucial con la invaluable ayuda del Dr. Félix Torres, Director del INO, la Dra. Valeria Sánchez Huerta y Cristina Sánchez de la IAPB se reunieron con el Ministro de Salud del Perú.
El objetivo principal de esta reunión de alto nivel fue informar sobre la importancia de la agenda global de salud ocular e invitar formalmente a la delegación de Perú a asistir al Global Summit de Salud Ocular que tendrá lugar en 2026.
Reuniones con miembros de IAPB en Perú
Teniendo en cuenta las actividades previas mencionadas, además de las reuniones con miembros del Instituto Nacional de Oftalmología,
Cristina Sánchez Gauto, Coordinadora Regional para América Latina de la IAPB, Tuvo la oportunidad de llevar a cabo una serie de encuentros estratégicos con los miembros de la IAPB en Perú.

IAPB activities in Peru
14th International Course on Community Eye Health (CISOC 2025), organized by the National Institute of Ophthalmology (INO) – Peru
The National Institute of Ophthalmology (INO) hosted an important series of training courses on visual health on September 22 and 23, highlighting the XIV International Course on Community Eye Health (CISOC 2025), along with specialized courses in Optics and Optometry, Low Vision, and Ophthalmic Nursing.
The main objective of these events was to strengthen the skills of primary and secondary healthcare personnel, thereby contributing to the goal of reducing the prevalence of blindness in Peru.
One of the most notable participants was Cristina Sánchez, Latin America Coordinator for the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB). Sánchez had the honor of attending and speaking to participants about the IAPB’s “2030 Insight” strategy, a crucial plan for global eye health.
The collaboration with the IAPB and participation in a hybrid (virtual and in-person) event at the INO demonstrates the joint commitment to training regional healthcare personnel.
IAPB participation in the INO 2025 Ophthalmology Congress (September 24-27)
The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) played a prominent role in the INO 2025 Ophthalmology Congress, held from September 24 to 27 at the National Institute of Ophthalmology.
The IAPB delegation was led by Dr. Valeria Sánchez Huerta, President of the Latin American Region, who was a keynote speaker at the event. Cristina Sánchez, Coordinator for Latin America, also attended, reaffirming the organization’s commitment to visual health in the region.
Meeting with the Minister of Health
A crucial meeting was arranged with the invaluable help of Dr. Félix Torres, Director of INO. Dr. Valeria Sánchez Huerta and Cristina Sánchez from the IAPB met with the Minister of Health of Peru.
The main objective of this high-level meeting was to report on the importance of the global eye health agenda and formally invite the Peruvian delegation to attend the Global Eye Health Summit to be held in 2026.
Meetings with IAPB members in Peru
Taking into account the aforementioned activities, in addition to meetings with members of the National Institute of Ophthalmology,
