Joel Bambamba

Dr. Bambamba has been a student at this Faculty for four years and he has shown academic aptitude and ambition above and beyond among his mates. He has often made critical points on class discussions and practicum that demonstrated his exceptional ability to analyze the needs for primary eye care, with a special focus on qualified professionals, even more in academic process, being awarded the distinction of the best students of his class.

He was awarded as beneficiary of Jill and George Mertz Fellow scholarship for his top notch performance on the Optometry Program by Brien Holden Vision Institute, in partnership with American Optometry Association to attend a Faculty Development Program at the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico – School of Optometry.

Dr. Bambamba became part of our team since 2013, and from 2015 to 2017 he responded as the Head of Optometry Department. His curiosity and commitment in improve the quality of our optometry graduates is what makes him such an exceptional professional.

In 2014, Dr. Bambamba was awarded a certificate of Low Vision Focal point for Mozambique by the Lions Club International Foundation and Hong Kong Society for the Blindness.

He also experienced the opportunity to lead a project named CONSAMS (Consortium of New Sub-Sahara African Medical Schools) as focal point of Lúrio University.

He is currently leading the optometry department research, and ever since, it is part of his role: Ensure the harmonious development of the teaching – learning and scientific research process;To guarantee the quality of teaching and research it carries out and Perform scientific research and develop extension activity.
